Literally, "rabbit ears"
Usamimi literally means "rabbit ears" in Japanese.
I've got another tutorial showing you how to make a Kagamine Rin-esque bow, now here's a headband!

Image of floral usamimi (used as the main image) is not mine - credit to Gingerbreadmanne (http://gingerbreadmanne.blogspot.com/). Same results are achieved~

  • How to make a fabric headband. Usamimi Headband - Step 1
    Step 1

    Gather your supplies.

Your fabric needs to be the length you want your headband to be times two times the width of your headband, plus seam allowance on both sides.
The longer your headband is, the longer your "ears" will be.

(I used an old tank top for my headband, so I had to cut on the bias. It's not required)

    Step 2

Fold your fabric in half, right sides together, and sew the long end shut to make a tube.

Don't sew the short ends! The tube should be open on both sides.

Now cut each end into a point to make the "ears"

Now, measure a piece of wire that's around 2x as long as your headband, plus a few inches extra.

Sew one of the pointed ends shut, then flip the entire headband right-side out.

Take your giant wire loop and feed it into the headband. Make sure the wire doesn't get twisted!

Sew the open point shut (making sure it's still pointy)

If you need to, you can sew the wire place in a few spot along the headband.

    Ta-da! You're done!

To wear it, loop it around the underneath of your head and bring the "ears" forward above your ears. Meet them at the top of the head and twist them around each other! Then position your ears~
