Keep drinks cool on these hot coasters!
 <  Image 1 of 2  >

I still have a ton of old scratched LPs hanging around, so I decided to make some coasters for a few friends who just got new apartments/houses. They're a little bit labor-intensive, but well-worth it for the wow factor!

  1. Step 1

Get 33 and 1/2 inch vinyl records. Try to use old, scratched, or just plain bad ones. You need four per set, but you may want extra since different records crack or break more easily than others.

  2. Step 2

Cut into the records until the lines on the record stop, leaving about 1 inch of plain vinyl around the label. Be careful, because these are not meant to break easily and when they do, they can be very sharp!

  3. Step 3

Use your sand paper (or nail files work, too) and sand the edges of your coasters until they are smooth.

  4. Step 4

Do this for all the records and you're done! I wrapped mine with ribbon and made a tag, but you can wrap yours in paper, make a coaster holder, whatever! Enjoy!
