    Step 1

Begin by using your tape measure or ruler to measure the height of your "vase." Mark your spot with a Sharpie marker. Continue measuring and marking around the entire container at the same height over and over again.

    Step 2

Use your tape to connect the marks you've made on each side of the container. Do this carefully so that you have an even straight line that consistently measures around the container.

    Step 3

Use your tape as a guide for cutting off the top of the container. The shape of the container may make it difficult for you to cut, but just remember to be careful. Never begin cutting toward your body. Always cut away from yourself or from side to side.

    Step 4

Using Elmer's glue or hot glue, begin gluing the jute chord around the top of the container. Hot glue is easiest because you won't have to wait for the glue to dry. Just make sure you pull away those pesky strings of glue as you go along. Also make sure there aren't any gaps where the glue can be seen. I left room at the mouth of the vase to do a clean finish at the very end.

Continue gluing. Depending on the height of your vase, this step should only take about 15 - 30 mins.

When you're done with the rest of the vase, return to the top to create one final circle around the rim. This will give your vase a nice polished look. It doesn't have to be perfect. The look of this rope vase is meant to look a little earthy and rugged. Just be sure to hide the hot glue as best you can.
