Two Toned Boa Scarf

For the fabulous, yet chilly-necked, boa-wearing person in you!

This is an original scarf pattern I came up with about a year ago. I didn't really write down the pattern the first time I made it, I just did it. But then my mother asked me to make her one, so I decided to document it the second time.

Rather than working in rows, this scarf is actually worked from the inside out in three stages: the core, the ruffles, and the outline. It's a fun and straightforward pattern to make.

Warning: the scarf, due to the amount of yarn in it, is on the heavy side. Just wanted to tell you in advance so you don't freak out when you wear it for the first time. ;)

TIP: Work very loosely. This will make the scarf softer, give it more ruffles, and shorten the amount of time you take to finish the scarf.

  1. Step 1

    STAGE 1 - THE CORE

    With Color A, ch 4, st st in 4th chain from hook to form a ring
    Row 1: ch 1, sc, ch 1, 6 dc
    Row 2 - ?: back loop only, dc in sc, dc in dc, working in round. Continue dc until desired length (note: I like it a tad on the long side, so I made it as long as I am tall).
    To finish, 2 sc, 1 sl st, 2 sc dec.

    Ch 1. Then, working the back towards where you started, sc in each loop. Fasten off.

    STAGE 2 - THE RUFFLES

    With Color B, sl st, sc.
    7 dc in each sc until there are only 2 sc left.
    Sc, sl st, fasten off.

    Note: you can increase or decrease the number of dc's per sc to the degree of ruffly-ness you would like.

    STAGE 3 - THE OUTLINE

    With Color A, sl st, sc in each dc until the second to last stitch, sl st, fasten off.

    How to wear it:
    I find the best way to wear it is to just tie it in a knot close to your neck. Like I said before, it does tend to be on the heavy side, so doing it any other way hasn't really worked out.
