Clay Charms
 <  Image 1 of 5  >

Make sure you bake the clay at the temperature on the packaging! Use the gloves so you don't get finger prints on the clay, and switch gloves when you switch clay colors. Use the toothpick to put a hole through the charm BEFORE baking, don't make it too big, you don't want the charm to fall off.

  1. Step 1

Apple: Roll into a ball, makeing the top round, and the bottom more square.

Flower: Roll 3 balls. Make them flat. Overlap each flat ball, and shape into a flower.

Ribbon: Roll clay, then make it flat. Shape into an "s" shape

Pawn: Roll clay, then make one of the sides flat and circular. With the pointy part, Gently roll into a ball. [gently because the stem can get messed up]

Queen: Roll clay, then make one of the sides flat and circular. Then make the pointy end goblet like [you know, where the drink goes] then use the toothpick to cut slits in it so it looks more like the top of a queen. If you want, use the tooth pick to make two rings around the stem of the queen.

  2. Step 2

Use the toothpick to put a whole in all the charms. [starting from the base, then slowly up through the charm] Don't make it too big, you don't want the charm to fall off the head pin.

  3. Step 3

Bake on a cookie sheet according to directions on the clay packaging.

  4. Step 4

LET THEM COOL, for about 10 minutes. Trust me, I've gotten little burns from them.

Paint the tips of the flower red.

Add a leaf shape bead to the apple.[if you want, I do because it looks more like an apple. You can't tell in the picture because it's pointing away from the camera]

  5. Step 5

Put a seed bead [red or white, whatever blends better with charm] on the head pin, then put the charm on, then put another seed bead on.

  6. Step 6

If you need to, use the wire cutters to cut some of the head pin off if it's too long. [you want to keep about 1 cm left]

  7. Step 7

Then use the round nose pliers and shape into an "O" and close up the pin!

  8. Step 8

Attach a jump ring and you're done!

If you want to make earrings, forget the jump ring and just use the "O" you made to attach to a shepherd hook. I recommend only doing apple earrings, because everything else might be too heavy and stretch your earring hole.
