Salvage four strips of fabric from the scraps. I took them from the back of the shirt under the neckband.
Sew two of them together end to end. Pull on all of them. They'll roll up.

I love this, and I love how you've done it! SO Cute!
Personally its too short for me, but I will wear it as a top when I get round to making one!

Just made it. (= Did it a wee bit different though.... I added a pannel at the bottom and looped it under. I have a big ol' bootie so I needed a little more at the bottom. I will post a variation at some point. Thank you for the how to!

Cady Rae:
You have to make three folds in all. The first fold is where the top crease already is. Right now the crease goes up, and you need to make it point downward. To make the other three folds, just make upward folds where you stopped cutting. (The corners you make in step two.)
Hope that helped!

I did enter it, really hopeful I win! Have you entered anything?
BTW, I'd love to see how you did your version. Any chance you could post it? I have also found that if it slips down too much, you can tie a simple knot at the top and tie the ends around the back of your neck. Works great, but it makes the front go up a bit. Might want to wear it that way with pants!!

*GAAKKKK* I really hope I do win! That's nice of you to say!
I usually never even bother to change the thread color at all to match the fabric. I went through one sewing binge that resulted in various colored tees, all with red thread!!! ;)

Thanks! I think that, if you couldn't understand the instructions, you pretty much do an accordion fold at the bottom and then sew that in place.

:D Thank you soooo much for this! It's the first [successful] reconstruction I've ever done, thanks to you!
And the pockets are just adorable.
Thanks again!
It's especially cute with a waist belt.
