This is a project I've wanted to do for such a long time!
The picture is from a prototype version pf a hat I made for one of my books, so the pattern posted here is slightly different, but equally cute. <3

  • Step 1

    Finished dimensions-
Because the brim is ribbed, this will be a very stretchy hat! It should fit an average adult-sized head (19"-23").

    Materials-
I used two skeins (one of each) of Bernat Softee Chunky Yarn in White and Black with a US10.5/6.5mm circular knitting needle. You will also need scissors, a darning/tapestry needle, and possibly a wire brush.

    Abbreviations-
    STS - Stitches
    K - Knit
    P - Purl
    K2Tog - Knit 2 together

  • Step 2

    Ok, let's get started!~
With Black yarn, cast on 72 sts.
Rib in 2x2 for 12 rounds.
[Optional: if you want a fold over brim, continue to rib for an extra 13 rounds, 25 rounds total.]

  • Step 3

Switch to white yarn and knit one round in pattern.
    Next round: Knit around.
Continue to knit around until your hat measures 6 inches from where you changed from black to white.

  • Step 4

    Decrease:
    Round 1: K2Tog, Knit 10 around
    Even Rounds 2-18: Knit around
    Round 3: K2Tog, Knit 9 around
    Round 5: K2Tog, Knit 8 around
    Round 7: K2Tog, Knit 7 around
    Round 9: K2Tog, Knit 6 around
    Round 11: K2Tog, Knit 5 around
    Round 13: K2Tog, Knit 4 around
    Round 15: K2Tog, Knit 3 around
    Round 17: K2Tog, Knit 2 around
    Round 19: K2Tog, Knit 1 around
    Round 20: K2Tog around

Break yarn, thread darning needle, and pull through the remaining stitches. Weave in all loose ends.

  • Step 5

    Pom-Pom Ears:
    Here's the tutorial I used to make the pom-poms - http://www.clonesnclowns.com/fr/2013/10/23/diy-pompon-en-fausse-fourrure-tutoriel-tuto/
(The website is in French, but Google should translate it for you. :) )

  • Step 6

    Finishing:
Weave in all loose ends. Sew on pom-poms on opposing decreases.
