The Morrigan Mask (The Wicked & The Divine)

I love The Wicked & The Divine so I thought I would do a craft in honor of it!

In this story, and in most stories, the symbol of The Morrigan is a raven, or rather a flock of ravens. The image they use to signify her as one of the gods is a skull with a raven painted in flight over the eye sockets. I did my best to really do justice to the image. I also made a point of having one half of the mask look wild, but at the same time kind of purposefully so and making the other half just totally all over the place crazy. This was, of course, to signify The Morrigan’s many personalities as well as the fluidity with which she switches between them.

Instructions

  1. Small 110491 2f2015 08 19 140846 img 7195

Start off by making a vague outline, in pencil, of where you think you will want your paint to go. Then completely disregard it and make small flicking motions with your hand whilst painting to make long feathery streaks around the eye sockets.

  2. Small 110491 2f2015 08 19 140854 img 7202

I also made the edges and inner line totally solid so that it would look more like a bird. This is really just up to you and how you want it to look, but I wanted a wild look. If you want something more regular make broader more deliberate motions with a heavier hand. Then just allow to dry and you’re done.
