Tetris Lamp
 <  Image 1 of 3  >

I love tetris. I always did. So one day... I made this lamp. And I'm enjoying it ever since.

Since some of you guys asked for a how-to, I digged out some old photos. Hopefully it helps.

And sorry for my english in advance. o_o

  1. Step 0

    Step 0

Decide how big you want your blocks to be.
Draw every kind you want in your lamp (One of my blocks is shown here) and try to have as many tiles of the same size as possible...

  2. Step 1

    Get the tiles you need.

Glue and/or nail the parts together, just as you drew them.

I didn't take any pictures during this step :(

  3. Step 2

    Step 2

    Paint the blocks.

  4. Step 3

    Step 3

Trace your blocks onto non-burning paper and cut them out.

Fold the paper so that it fits into the holes and fix it from the inside of your block.

  5. Step 4

    Step 4

<--- my blocks at this stage.

  6. Step 5

    Step 5

Now we come to the fun part:

    Play tetris with your blocks!

Decide which combination you want to hang on your wall, if you haven't already.

  7. Step 6

    Step 6

Divide your fairylights on your blocks and probably fix them from the inside. I used pushpins for that.

<--- one of my blocks from the inside

  8. Step 7

    Step 7

Hang your blocks on the wall, just the way you chose in step 5.

  9. Step 8

    Step 8

Switch your lights on and enjoy :)

There was some colored transparency paper at my local craft store, which was specifically for making lamps.

But if you put the fairy lights far enough from the paper blend, it won't burn anyways.. I guess. :)

These are so cool! In your tutorial, when you say, "tiles," do you mean tiles of wood? Is that what you made your "blocks" with?
