Not your grandmas Pincushion.
I needed a pincushion and I did not want the usual thing...go figure. I saw a teacup pincushion one day online. I figured I could make one for myself. I did and it is very easy to do. Here are my instructions.

Step 1
Cut the Fabric in a circle about 4 inches larger than the diameter of the cup opening. (if cup is 3 inches across the opening, cut a 7 inch circle) A plate or bowl would work for the template.

Step 2
Thread your needle and sew a big running stitch all around the wrong side perimeter of the circle of fabric, about ¼ to ½ inch allowance. Leave a long tail so you don't pull your thread through. I left the needle on until I had it all stuffed. If you know how to make yo yos, this is just like that.

Step 3
Stuff, and stuff, and stuff until it's nice and full, compact, smooth and firm. Using small pieces of stuffing rather than large blobs will make this look nicer. Squash it around to make it look even.

Then pull the opening closed and Hand-stitch the opening closed with a few quick stitches, tie off the ends securely.

Dry fit your fabric ball. If it slips in farther than you would like add some of the stuffing to the bottom of the cup until it sits where you want it. Glue the stuffing to the bottom of the cup. But wait to glue the ball in.

Step 6
Next dry fit the lace to see how much you want to show, and trim it to the correct length. Apply the hot glue to the inside of the cup and put the lace in. Be careful not to burn your fingers with the hot glue. Some people wear a rubber glove for this part.

Step 7
Apply liberal amounts of hot glue to the underside of the ball and the sides of the cup and press the ball into place.

Step 8
If you don't have a saucer just skip this step.
Glue the Cup to the Saucer.
Put the hot glue on the underside inside lip edge center, so that it will not be seen when the cup is on the saucer. see the picture. -
Step 9
Apply embellishments to suite your fancy with the hot glue carefully.
Enjoy for years to come.Embellishments you can use: Lace, Buttons, Ribbon, Beads, Small Silk Flowers, Fancy quilting pins.
