  • Step 1

    1. Cut three strips about an inch wide out of an old t-shirt. The strips should be about 12 inches long, but it depends on the size of your head.

  • Step 2

    2. Stretch each strip so that the material curls a bit.

  • Step 3

    3. Stitch all three strips together at one end to keep them together.

  • Step 4

    4. Use tape to anchor the strips to a table, then braid them together.

  • Step 5

    5. After you braid the strips together, measure them around you head to see how big it needs to be. You will add a little elastic so it will stretch, plus the material stretches a bit, so go a little smaller than you think it needs to be.

  • Step 6

    6. Sew a small bit of elastic to each end of the braid. I usually use three or four inches of elastic. Make sure you sew it well so that it does not come undone. A bit of fabric glue can help to make it sturdier as well.

  • Step 7

    7. Add buttons, beads or flowers to decorate your new headband!
