This sparkling pendant was made using right angle weave.
This sparkling pendant was made using right angle weave with CRYSTALLIZED™ - Swarovski Elements beads. The pendant was hung from trace chain giving a delicate finish. As an alternative, try using one colour of bead to match a favourite outfit.

  • How to make a beaded pendant. Swarovski Pendant And Earrings - Step 1
    Step 1

    Right Angle Weave
Thread your needle with 150cm of thread. Create a stop bead by picking up 1 bead and moving it to about 15cm from the end of the thread. Loop your thread round and through again and pull tight. Thread on 3 more beads. Pass the needle back through the 1st (stop), 2nd and 3rd beads once more and pull tight into a circle.
Thread on 3 more beads. Take the needle back down through the bead that the working thread is coming out of and through the next 2 beads along. Add on a further 3 beads and come back up through the working bead and the next 2 along. Repeat again so that you have 4 circles.

To start a new row, after you have added the last set of 3, pass the needle through the next bead along. Thread on 3 beads and pass the needle back through the bead the thread is trailing from. Pull up to form a circle. Take the needle back through the 3 beads just added, then through the bottom bead of the next chain of the original row.

Now thread on 2 beads and take the needle back through the 2 beads already in place, then through the 1st of the 2 beads just added. Continue along the row in the same way. You should start to notice little diamonds forming between the 2 rows. The golden rule is to always work the thread in alternating circles, never straight up or down. Continue until you have 9 rows of beads.

    Assembling your pendant
Adding the swivel spacer bar and chain. When you have finished your pendant, weave back through the beads coming out at a corner bead. Pass your thread through the end loop of the swivel spacer bar. Weave round through the beads and through the swivel bar again. Repeat a couple more times until your swivel bar feels firmly attached. Weave your remaining thread back through the pendant to the opposite corner. DO NOT cut off the thread at this point as you will need it in step 5. Using your cutters, cut 45cm of trace chain. Open up a jump ring and attach to one end of the chain. Hook your trigger clasp on to the jump ring and close it. Pass the chain through the remaining end loop on your swivel spacer bar. Add a jump ring to the opposite end of the chain.

    Adding tassels
Cut 15cm of chain. Pass your needle with the remaining thread through one of the links on the chain about 8cm along. Weave back into the pendant and out again. Pass through the loop once more. Then weave through the pendant, knotting in-between beads to secure. Trim off any excess thread.
Thread 1 bead on to a headpin. Cut the headpin about 1cm above the bead. Using round nosed pliers, curl the headpin into a not quite closed loop. Hook the curled headpin onto the end of the tassel and close the loop. Repeat at the other end of the tassel and then with a couple more a few centimetres down each one.

    Earrings
Prepare a headpin as you did in step 5 but add 4 beads instead of 1. Cut 1.5cm (or longer if you wish) of chain. Attach your prepared headpin to one end. Hook the other end onto a kidney wire. Repeat this step to make a pair.
