Last weekend, Walter and I went to see Wes Anderson’s new film, Moonrise Kingdom. Set on the fictitious island of New Penzance on the shores of New England, it’s a sweet coming of age love story between two 12-year-old misfits. I immediately connected with the heroine, Suzy Bishop (despite her age and violent streak), for her love of reading, French music and sartorial taste.

Wanting to replicate Suzy’s look from her tryst with the film’s hero, Sam, I used Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadow in Edgy Emerald and layered MAC Satin Eyeshadow in Electric Eel on top. I chose to skip mascara and foundation, opting to use a bit of concealer instead for a more natural look.
I couldn’t find a pink dress that matched Suzy’s, but I thought this black peter pan dress from Forever 21 worked well. Knee socks were a must, as were “Sunday shoes”, or in my case, grey oxfords.
I topped off the look with a pair of binoculars, a cross body bag and, the pièce de résistance, a tabby cat (special thanks to my cat, Zooey for participating!).
