Sugar Skulls

Celebrate Day of The Dead with some decorated sugar skulls.

  1. Step 1

    Step 1

    Place the sugar in a mixing bowl.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

    Beat together the egg white, vanilla and honey in another bowl.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

    Beat together the egg white, vanilla and honey in another bowl.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

    Pack the dough in to the moulds.

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

    Tap the skulls out on to a plate and leave to dry in a fridge for 10 hours.

  6. Step 6

    Step 6

    Decorate with icing.

I Stumbled Upon your site the other day and saw the heart shaped bath bombs. I told my sister I thought they were sugar hearts and I wish I had a recipe for sugar skulls. And look where I Stumble today! :)

i've been wanting to make some of these...for now, i'm making papier mache skeletons for day of the dead, which will be debuting on my blog soon. ;) hey, where'd ya find the skull mold?

These are great! You can get all different kinds of sugar skull molds at www.mexicansugarskull.com.
No personal connection or plug here- I just bought some for my upcoming wedding and like the website a lot.

No, the almond extract isn't essential. You could use vanilla extract as an alternative.

How big are the molds and are they hard to decorate??? I'va came across this idea before but did not know where to get the mold but yeah now I do so thanks!!!

No, they're super easy to decorate if you've got writing icing (hehe that rhymed). They measure about 2" by 2". I'm going to make some with clay so I can decorate my flat for Halloween.
