I made Sugar Skull Magnets and a bunch of others for Christmas last year. I was in such a rush that I didn't take the time to make tutorials for them. They were a hit last year so I decided to make a tutorial for the Sugar Skull Magnets cos they were my favourite ones to make. This is my first tutorial, ever. I used my cell phone camera so I apologize for the lack of high resulution. My digital camera battery died out right before so I had to make do with the cell phone camera. You Will Need
Sugar Skull Magnet
Simple Sugar Skull Magnet made with polymer clay, acrylic paint, glue gun, and magnet

Gather all your materials. You need:
*White Polymer Clay (Sculpey, Fimo, etc)
*Acrylic Paint and Brushes
*Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
*Round magnets
*Old Credit Card/Plastic Cutting Tool
*Glass Baking Pan
*Glass Jar (for flattening)
*Clear Nailpolish (not pictured) -
Preheat oven to 130 degrees Celsius/275 degrees Farenheit.
Cut a 1/2" (39.10 mm)piece of white polymer clay. Roll into a ball or egg shape. -
Flatten ball/egg shape to glass jar, making it 1/4" (19 mm)thick.

Bake in oven for 15 minutes. Let the clay cool down (about 1/2 hour- 45 minutes).

Coat the front with white acrylic paint, let dry (15-20 minutes).

While the paint is drying (or even when you're waiting for the clay to cool from the oven), you can sketch out sugar skull designs. I looked up pictures from the internet for inspiration.

Free-hand paint the sugar skull with acrylic paint. Wait for the paint to dry and you can detail with a fine-tip Sharpie.

Let the acrylic paint dry (30 minutes to be safe). Also, make sure to wait an additional 30 minutes for the Sharpie ink to set. I unfortunately messed some up when I varnished with the clear nailpolish. Here's a picture of the finished sugar skulls before I applied the clear nailpolish.

Wait about 45 minutes for the clear nail polish to dry.
Glue gun the magnet to the back of the sugar skull and put some pressure on it. Let it set for an hour.
Voila!
