My friend's mom gave me a dress which she thought looked great on me. I disagreed. The print wasn't so bad; it reminds me of sailor clothes or something. Anyways, the original dress was a turtle-neck without sleeves. the print was just waaaaaay too busy to cover me neck to ankles.... so I chopped the dress at the waits and took in the sides. It's really stretchy material so I didnt even need a zipper.
The last picture gives you a better look of the print....
I wore this to a wedding on the weekend, but I'm still not sure if I love it or not. I think it looks better with the belt/ribbon but my mom, boyfriend and sister disagree...
comments or suggestions appreciated!

personally i love the way it looks with the black ribbon. i would have tried another color though, like a red ribbon just to give it a little pizazz...you did a great job on it =]

I agree with you, the ribbon adds alot to the dress. It's much better with the ribbon.

Love it, with and without the ribbon. As far as the ribbon goes though, I think it looks really nice at the back, whereas at the front it does kind of cut across you (so I can see why someone might think it looked better without). Maybe a half-belt idea would work? (Sew ribbon in at side/side seams and tie in back.)Regardless, it's a lovely dress however you choose to wear it and I think you've done a wonderful job revamping it.
