Steampunk Ear Studs
 <  Image 1 of 3  >

Some ear studs I've made.

I got the gears for those from ebay, they can get quite pricey, though.

  1. Step 1

Take two larger gears, the kind without spokes (?) and put some adhesive to the backside to cover the hole in the middle.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

Put some diamond glaze on the gears and carefully place smaller gears on it as decoration.
You can also use other small clock parts like screws.

    Let the diamond glaze try.

  3. Step 3

Carefully remove the adhesive tape and glue the ear stud findings onto the backside.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

If you'd rather use earhooks instead of studs you can glue eye pins to the gears and attatch them to earhooks.

They're lovely!
May I ask, where do you buy your Diamond Glaze?
I've been looking all over for it :/

I really liked these - they look to me like gears from an old watch - wondering if you couldn't use old watches for parts..

So gorgeous, I would adore a pair of these! I guess you could use watch parts, but they may be a little small? I suppose it depends what kind of watch you've taken apart. (If you don't want to take apart a good watch they sell watch parts at http://www.myvintagecharms.com/crafts/crafts1.htm) Lovely project, will have to try this one ^^

Try Etsy! If you change what you're searching for to 'Supplies', and type in gears, you'll find some pretty cheap destash from people who've taken apart clocks and watches and things!
