    Step 1

I created the letter “R” as a sample for this project because I wanted to determine how difficult it would be to cut out a hole in the center of the letter. I looked for some block style font designs online as a guide and then drew the letter onto the cork using pencil and a ruler. Next, just cut the letter shape out of the cork using a good pair of scissors. The cork is pretty thin which makes it a breeze to cut through.

Before painting, I suggest laying down some plastic sheeting or other table protector because of the splattering technique to follow. Choose one color of acrylic paint, in this case, black was used to cover the top surface of the cork. Let dry for one half hour if possible before proceeding.

Mix up some bold pastel colors and thin the acrylic colors with water. The thinner the paint, the easier it is to spatter, drip and fling it.

Let the splattering begin but be careful of any innocent pedestrians in the area. but I’ll bet they’ll just want to get in on the action! Once dry, hang the completed project on your wall using the command strips. Go ahead and add pictures, post-it notes or anything you want on your new message board.
