  • How to make a pair of fabric covered shoes. Spinster's Emporium Customised Canvas Shoes - Step 1
    Step 1

Gather your materials. I bought my shoes from a high street shop for £10 and the fabric was from my scrap bag.
Remove the laces from the shoes before you begin.

Using tracing paper (or baking parchment) trace the area of your shoe you want to patch to create a template.
Even matching shoes can be slightly different shapes so trace a template for each shoe.

Pin your template to your chosen fabric and draw around it with an extra half centimetre hem allowance all the way round. Cut out.

    Step 4

Pin your fabric to your shoe. Fold over the edges and stitch in place all around the patch. I used a back stitch to mimic the stitching on the shoe but a running stitch would work as well.
You may need to trim the fabric at the corners to reduce bulk.

And your shoes are done! Why not do a quick zig zag stitch on the shoelaces in colours to match your fabric or replace the laces with some ribbon.
