Just like my other project, I took my old keyboard apart and decided to do something with it.
I don't know where this idea came from, it just came in my head, so I ran with it. It's supposed be a play on the whole "I need space" break up line (get it?. Because for some reason bad puns are my thing. I didn't take photos of the progress because my camera refuses to focus on anything properly. Anyways, :)

  • Step 1

Take your old keyboard and pry apart the spacebar. Normally you can just lift it up with your fingers and pull it out but if not, I'd suggest using a butterknife or something similar that you won't hurt yourself on.

  • Step 2

Once you've done that, decide where you want to put the holes for where the spacebar will hang from the chain. Then after that hammer your nail gently into the places until the holes are big enough for the jump rings to fit through.

Warning: depending on the thickness of the keys - they can shatter. Thinner keys like the ones in my photo tend to break easily if hit too hard.

  • Step 3

Now you've made holes, you can go ahead and add the jump rings through them and onto your necklace chain so everything is attached.

  • Step 4

Next I chose a nail varnish colour and poured some out on some tissue paper for easy access. Then I grabbed my brush and wrote my phrase onto the spacebar and let it dry. Once dry I went over it with clear nail varnish so it won't chip. You could use paint, which I would actually recommend but I didn't have any handy. Then you're done!
