Simple and Quick Rag Doll
I've seem a bunch of people put up their own Sock Dolls but no one put a tutorial so I decided to post mine.

Sock Dolls are quick and easy (depending on how complex you get and how fast of a sewer you are. I've seen a lot of people also say their a nice way to recycle...I kind of agree...all the dolls I've made I've used with old socks, but they're for myself. Please if you're making this for a gift or to sell, purchase new, never worn socks. They're not that expensive and you don't know whether or not a young child might be rubbing their face against these things.

    Step 1

Gather your materials. Like I said, if your making this for someone else, please use new, unworn socks. Just for hygiene sake. Remember any markings on the sock will show up on the doll so solid colored socks are the best

    Step 2

Take your first sock and stuff it with filling. If it's not an ankle sock you should cut the top off first. This will be your head and torso

    Step 3

Sew the opening to the sock closed to make a bean shape

About 2-3 inches from the top of the sock (varies depending on the size of the sock and how big you want your doll's head) make loose stitches all the way around. Make sure to use strong thread for this, the thread is prone to snapping when pulled if it's too weak. (or use several pieces of normal thread if you don't have strong thread)

    Step 5

Pull both ends of the thread until you get a nice neck and head. Then tie it several times so it doesn't slip

There are several hundred different techniques for hair and clothes of this sight, so I'll let you find the one you like best. For this doll I used yarn hair, embroidered face, and made a dress out of my old pajama pants (I do NOT recommend using knit or woven fabric for your doll's clothes. It took me forever and was a LOT of hemming. Felt works best because there's no hemming involved)

You could also skip the clothes and make a voodoo style doll instead. Here's a pair I made for my friend Katie. In all honesty, they were much easier to make than the doll with hair and clothe
