(Sorry for the crappy picture-- i didn't have anyone to take a picture of it for me while I was wearing it.)
Made this for my grandpa's birthday. He's always cold, so I figured this would be perfect to replace the old blanket he's using now.
I think maybe I could have gotten away with using 2.5 yards of fabric-- I tried it on, and it's definitely VERY long (I'm 5'3, and my grandpa is shorter than that now.) But I like the way it turned out.
I rolled the sleeves up at the end (I guess you could say I cuffed them, though I didn't sew them that way), because those are slightly too long too-- if I ever make another one for myself, I'll probably make some "short people" adjustments.

Great job!! I totally agree, shorter persons could most definitely use less fabric.

my bf's grandma got it as a gift and i remember thinking how easy it is to make. I was thinking when i made one i would make some alterations like adding those mitten sleeves (sorta like baby clothes)to keep me crazy warm =]

Sorry for taking so long to get back to these comments-- have been puppy sitting and have consequently had little to no time in which to attend to things other than following said puppy around going "Hey! Don't eat that! No! Don't poop on my floor! Hey! Come back here!" (Also, I'm not quite sure how to reply to individual comments-- I don't see a button or anything... so I'll do it all here.)
@Creative Origins: Yeah, my grandpa said the same thing. :) I just told him not to walk around in it. Problem solved. ;)
@M.a.r.i.s.o.l.: They really are surprisingly easy to make. I had to hand stitch the sleeves on because there was just way too much material to get onto my sewing machine (I have a small workspace [I literally work out of a spare closet] and there was just too much junk and not enough room to go around), but it really went quickly (two, maybe three episodes of Bones.) And it turned out almost exactly like the example picture, though I somehow got the idea that I needed to cut ovals for the armholes instead of a slit (I don't know why or how), and that set me back a little, and caused the arms to be slightly harder to attach. Mitten sleeves would be GREAT, though! I thought about sewing the extra fabric on the bottom into a little pocket for feet, but didn't get around to it. Maybe on my next one, though!

Thanks! I typed out a really long response to your comments (both of you), but it apparently didn't post.
Funnily enough, my grandpa, when he opened it, was like "holy cow, how tall do you think I am?"
And mittens would be awesome-- I thought about hemming the bottom extra material into a pocket of sorts for feet, but ran out of time. Maybe on the next one!
