felt sailor hat.
Okay, inspired by Jessica's (i think it's her) hat in genie. The one I did is not exactly the same hat (different design on the hat) but I like mine with the front part 'pointed'. You can do yours just like hers, same design and without the pointy part.

I liked the little sailor hat the moment I saw it but those sites that were selling them cost a bomb and I couldn't find any tutorials to make them anywhere so I posted this.

Hope you like it! have fun! :D :D

  • How to bake a rice krispie treat. Snsd Inspired Genie Sailor Hat. - Step 1
    Step 1

    draft the pattern.

cut 2 rectangles, measurements as shown in the picture.

    A - 28cm x 5.8cm
    B - 28cm x 2.9cm

You will be cutting 2 pieces from each pattern to make 4.

(*i'm only using 0.3cm as hem. If you think you might need more space, add more measurements to each side)

    Step 2

    trim the edges.

A - measure 2 cm on one side and fold down to the opposite to make a right angle triangle. Snip off the triangle.

On the other side, measure 3cm and do the same as above.

B - it's trickier (for me at least) but follow the picture to see how to cut.

    Step 3

place the pattern on your cloth, cut 2 pieces of each pattern. Here I've cut 4 pieces of pattern to give you an idea of what you should have.

    Step 4

    Here's what you end with.

Put them together, and you'll get one side of the hat.

stitch them together in this manner.

alternatively you can glue gun this whole thing but I lost my gun.

    Step 5

I used felt cloth because they'll hold the shape better but you can use anything you prefer.

    Step 6

Then, stitch the short sides of two pieces of cloth together, so you get a continuous circle.

    Step 7

    (*oops no picture!)
for the top of the hat, you need to cut something like a leaf shape (one side narrower than the other). You need the pointy part of the leaf shape to fit in the part of the hat that slants downwards (see pic in next step)

The widest point should be somewhere in the middle. the width of the 'leaf' depends on how wide you want your hat to be so I can't really help you here. (attached my hat's measurements for ref)

what I did was I place 'step 6' over my head, decide how wide I want the hat to be, place it on the felt cloth and trace the shape out.

    Step 8

stitch the hems together on the wrong side. (I pinned them together, flip the right side over and tried the hat till I was satisfied before sewing)

decorate the hat and you're done!

(sorry for being so long winded, just hoping to explain everything clearly)
