I made this simple snake cake for my friends birthday, it was alot of fun to make, but took me a good two and a half hours from mixing the ingredients for the cake to putting the finnishing sprinkles on to finnish him off.

First you need to bake your cake in a large round cake tin and leave it to cool.

Cut a hole in the middle of your cake, big enough for your snake's head (this can be shaped later).
Then you need to cut the 'O' shaped cake into two semi circular shaped pieces. Arrange the three pieces on a surface in a snake shape. Now you can shape the snake to make it more realistic.

Make a big bowl of green (or whatever colour snake you fancy) butter icing. You will need quite alot to cover the top and sides of the snake.

Cover your snake with the icing. I found it helps if you place the icing on the edge of the snake's body and allow it to run down the sides as it is tricky trying to slap the icing straight onto the sides.

Decorate your snake with whatever you like! I used M&Ms for the spots and eyes, a 'fizzy rainbow belt' cut into shape for the tongue, and sprinkled a few multi-coloured sugar strands on him too.
Enjoy!
