My mom bought me these jeans. They were just some average $20 black skinny jeans from the mall but were a bit tight. I like the way they looked but not while they were on me as I usually wear baggier jeans. So instead of getting rid of them (I mean they WERE brand new), I decided to fix them by sewing pirate fabric around the edges giving them tuxedo stripes. I really like 'em now.

This is a very easy project but I didn't take photos (camera is broken) so I'm sorry if it's confusing. I will do the best I can to make it clear, this is my first post.

Try on the jeans then figure out your measurements. I needed mine about 2'' wider so my stripe was about 3'' (for seam allowance). You can use a pair that fit you well and measure the widths of both pants to compare them. Like I said, mine had about a 2'' difference.

Cut the outer edge of your pants along the seam. Cut out your strips of fabric according to your own measurements.
Hem the bottom edges of your fabric strips by folding the edge over, pinning it and sewing. Trust me, it's so much easier to do this now rather than later.
Starting with the first leg, match the edge of your fabric to the edge of your jeans with the right sides together. It may help to turn them inside out. Pin and sew up the leg from the bottom edge. Repeat with the other leg.

The next part is a little harder but takes no more than 5 minutes. Pin the opposite edges of your jeans to the fabric, making sure the pants are inside out. Sew the seam. The top should look like a point from the right side. On the inside one side should match and the other should have fabric hanging off of it. Or both may have fabric. This is just fine as it is on the inside. I cut it off but you may choose to leave it alone.
Turn your jeans inside out and try them on to make sure they fit. Now you have a nice new pair of jeans!
