    Step 1

Select some fabric that you would like to make your skirt from.

    Step 2

Measure your waist and cut out a piece of fabric that is 2" longer than this to allow for seams and cut it 4" wide (so that it can be folded over). You can adjust this if you want a wider or smaller waistband.

Cut out a piece 56" for width by the length you want. Both measurements can be adjusted. If you want a fuller skirt use a piece wider than 56" and if you want it longer, cut the length longer.

    Step 3

Cut your fabric in half, then cut the back piece in half, so that you have three skirt pieces and a waistband.

Now sew the skirt pieces at the sides.

Then make two or three pleats either side of middle and sew the skirt to the waistband.

Sew the back and insert the zip.

Sew the hem and you are done.

You should then have a skirt.

You can make all sorts of variations to this pattern, make a long skirt, a narrower one or a really full one.

How does the three pieces part work? Is the bigger part at the front and the smaller ones join at the back? Sorry, maybe I'm just being stupid...it's a lovely skirt though!

Yeah, the big piece is the front one and the other two are the back pieces, you sew the zip at the back between the two smaller pieces.

Hope that helps.
