Shot Glass Candles

Turn a shot glass in to a lovely tea light candle.

  1. Step 1

    Step 1

    Break up all your old, half burnt candles in to a measuring jug. You can use discoloured wax if you are planning on adding some wax dye.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

    Place the measuring jug in to a pan of boiling water and leave to melt down.


  3. Step 3

    Step 3

    When the wax has almost melted down completely add your wax dye.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

    Cut lengths of wick to fit the shot glasses.


  5. Step 5

    Step 5

    Place the wicks inside the shot glasses. Make sure only to use glass shot glasses, plastic ones will melt.

  6. Step 6

    Step 6

    When the wax is melted down pour a measure in to each shot glass, be careful not to submerge to wick.

  7. Step 7

    Step 7

    When the wax is almost completely set, move the wick in to the center of the glass and then leave to fully set.

those are cute. I'd make some but despite the fact that 2 of my flatmates work in bars we have no shot glasses.
Wax crayons are pretty good for dyeing candles - although they can stop it burning so well if you use too much. I haven't made candles for years, it was fun though.

Try adding a little bit of Olive oil to the glass before you add the wax. It makes the excess wax easy to remove later, in case you want to switch colors or something.

I'm 21, so I'm guessing that you're the youngest crafty person to have ever come to this blog. You can do this in the microwave to protect your hands. I live in Dundee in Scotland, though I might move to London at some point next year.

a gd idea is 2 put selotape across the shot glassand cut a slit in it and slot the wick in it...i shuld shold it up...i hav tried it but only making a lolly for the stick to be held up...andway hpe tht helps...i hav a big brain 4 sme1 who is 11!!!!!

This looks awesome! I really want to make some candles for my mum for her birthday, but i would prefer that they're scented. What do you suggest I add to the wax to make it smell nice when the candle is burning? And also, do you need wax dye specifically, or can it be food dye? Thanks for putting this up!
