Tasty Homemade Devil's Food Cake!
I'm not normally a great "from scratch" cake maker. They always seem to come out hard. Okay, so I've only made one other one... and then I kinda gave up on it because I didn't like the failer of it. HOWEVER... its going to be super cold tonight and tomorrow and I wanted to heat up the house by using my oven.
Yes, I'm giving it a try again.

Here we go......

Ingredients:
2 1/4 Cup all purpose flour
1/2 Cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 Cup Shortening
1 3/4 Cups Sugar
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
3 Eggs
1 1/3 Cups Cold Water

    1. Grease and lightly flour two 9x1 1/2 inch round baking pans. Tip.. When I "flour" mine, I use some of the dry mixture from my cake mix instead of plain flour. It doesn't leave the white residue on it nor does it leave it a floury taste on the edges!

2, Mix together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

    3. In a large mixing bowl beat shortening with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. I had no electric mixer, so I beat it until it was nice and smooth and whippy...
Add sugar and vanilla; beat until well combined.
