You can do it with sugar!
Just add the coloring to some sugar in a bowl, stur and pour it out on a cookie sheet to dry on th e counter.

you can do this with sugar just don't heat it, i used colored sugars for x-mas cakes last year ,just put them in a ziploc bag add a few drops of food colloring work it through the sugar let it dry and they last for a while

OMG! this is so cool! i can see salt shakers full of colored salt! and a putrid color one for halloween!
