No fancy dyes required! Just bleach the hell outta it!!
I was bored one day and found an old shirt wile cleaning out my room. It was a work-shirt and it had bleach all up the back as a result of a mishap on the clock. I obviously couldn't wear it at work anymore so I figured, "why not finish the job?" Pour bleach all over it and go from some weird looking bleach splatter to an entirely new shirt!

You Will Need

Step 1Take an old black t-shirt that you never wear and rubber band the crap out of it. The shirt I used was an old shirt from my work that I had already gotten bleach all over. Twist, bend and contort the shirt material in any way you like to get the most interesting patterns possible.

Step 2When you are satisfied with the amount of twists on your shirt, take a large bucket and fill it with 50% bleach and 50% water. Be sure to wear gloves when doing this. Also, do this in a well ventilated area or just go outside. This was a rainy-day activity for me so I just used my bathroom tub, which happened to have a vent over it.

Step 3Take your rubber-banded shirt and dunk it in the bleach solution. Keep an eye on it so the bleach doesn't eat through your material. The shirt will turn dark brown and then copper-ish or an even lighter color depending on the amount of bleach in your solution.

Step 4Take the shirt out of the bleach solution and let it sit and drip-dry for a bit. I just set it on a rack in my bathtub. The color will probably continue to change a little. I left mine out for about 10-15 minutes.

Step 5After some of the bleach solution has dripped out of the shirt, rinse it with warm water. And let it sit out to dry again. Once it's mostly dried you can remove the rubber bands, either by cutting them off or just pulling them off one by one.

Step 6Once all the rubber bands are off, wash the shirt in a cold water cycle in your washer (to be absolutely sure that there is no more bleach left in the fabric).
