and do you reckon you could do that to like little flat pumps? i have some real cute ones that need sprucing up a little!
If you look at photo number 3, you'll see that my shoe has been glued too. Most leather shoes are made this way. Try using tongs and some violence - I did ;)

How do you know whether you can separate tops from bottoms before you buy the shoes? Most of the ones I see seem to be glued.
