I wonder if you have seen my How-to for Recon Tee previously. Well, this is sort of the part 2 of it. I kept the scraps I got from cutting the tee and now I'm making it into something useful. :) I pinned it on a grey cardigan as a little embellishment.
I wonder if you have seen my How-to for Recon Tee previously. Well, this is sort of the part 2 of it. I kept the scraps I got from cutting the tee and now I'm making it into something useful. :) I pinned it on a grey cardigan as a little embellishment.
Get the hem of the sleeves you cut from the tee.
First you choose the type of pins that you wanna use. For this brooch, I'm using the silver pin shown in the picture. But safety pins will work fine too.
Place the pin on the folded fabric strip.
Fold and wrap the short tail around the back of the pin and then sew the fabric and the pin in place.
Snip the join of the hem to get a long strip of fabric. Fold diagonally down at one end, leaving a short tail.
Continue folding diagonally away from you and then wrapping a short section of the next part of the fabric strip around. Remember to sew/glue the rose in place as you fold and wrap.
Wrap the folded section around in a clockwise direction. Sew/glue it in place.
Fold the strip diagonally away from yourself. The picture shows how it should look like from the back.
Always fold the strip away from you, creating a slanting edge.
As you continue folding and wrapping, you will get something like the rose shown in the picture.
Repeat until you reach the end of the strip. Sew/glue the end in place. The recon tee rose brooch is done!
I hope it's not too difficult or confusing. This folding and wrapping may take some practise before you get the desired look of the rose. Do practise without sealing the fabric together first. For people who don't understand how to fold and wrap the strip into a rose, perhaps looking for "ribbon rose how-to" on the Net may help.
