Yaya!
So, its obv at this point what my costume was this year.
:)! Rainbow Brite <3!
I'm called Rainbow Brite so much all the time because of my everyday clothing style, so I figured why not be Rainbow Brite for halloween?
Originally, I had basic plans of how I would construct it. I broke down the outfit into four basic pieces; dress, vest, sleeves, and bootcovers. Then I figured out how to use methods and techniques I already know to create the each piece. I didn't use any patterns and I just winged it. At the end, nothing was how I originally plannned. Haha.
But I made it work :)!
The dress was basically a tube top with a circle skirt. The back is shirred. I decided to add straps to avoid any mishaps.... :P!
I stitched on the yellow rectangle with machine and the red dots by hand. I learned that I love exposed stitching like this :)!
The "sleeves" from my beginning plan turned into armwarmers in the end.... due to the fact I have no idea how to construct sleeve patterns, connect them to a dress, etc. They went up passed my elbow, so they were just like sleeves, just not attached. :P!
The star is stitched on by hand :)! I think the armwarmers are my favorite thing out of the entire outfit <3!
Vest with felt rainbow "buckle" I inserted grommets to the front and laced it up, then covered the lacing with the rainbow. I used interfacing to get the "sleeves" to stick out, which was kind of a flop. But meh
&Last but not least,
The boot covers that shaved about twenty years off my life -_-! Haha.
These seemed so basic, but they took me the longest time. I ended up making them too small, but more grommets and some lacing fixed that! I wore them over my Demonia platforms. They were pretty much a flop because they ripped within one hour of wear.... :/! But I'm proud that I completed them, at least!
As I imagined, NO ONE knew who I was :/! I had people ask me if I was a carebear (WTF?!), Strawberry Shortcake(....) and even Wonder Woman! I was so upset, because I spent a good week on this costume and no one knew who I was. But my close friends all praised me for making an entire costume myself, so that made me feel good :)! Overall, I'm pretty happy with it.
This year I learned I prefer scary/gore-y to cute costumes. Next year I plan on being something scary ;]! No more cute costumes for me!

<3!
