purple people eater I was inspired by a cake made by Duff (Ace of Cakes) for Paula's Party. She asked for a blue velvet cake in the shape of a guitar (if memory serves me right) and she got it! Tomorrow (Christmas Eve) is my birthday, so I made this for myself with my favorite color: purple. It was really easy, and depending on what you have in your cabinet, shouldn't cost much at all. I ran into a few blips because I was using techniques I've never used before. But considering I'm a cookie person I think I did pretty well for my first homemade cake. And it tastes delicious!

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Gease 2 round cake pans. I use two 9 inch, but you can use whatever you like.

Mix together flour and salt. Add flour mixture to the creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. I did it 1 cup flour mixture then 1/2 cup buttermilk, 1 1/2 cup flour mixture and the final 1/2 cup buttermilk.

Now the batter should look like this.

  • Step 7

    Blend in vanilla.

In a small bowl, combine baking soda and vinegar and add to mixture.

Let cool and then ice and you're done! I used 1 1/2 cans vanilla icing from the store, but you can make your own or buy something different.
