  1. Step 1

    Step 1

Get yourself a nice healthy looking pumpkin. Don't buy it too long before Halloween. The supermarkets start selling them in September but pumpkins go off after two weeks. Carve your pumpkin only a couple of days before Halloween or it will turn brown and not look very nice.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

Take a sharp knife and score a line about 5 inches from the top of the pumpkin right around the circumference. You can make it a jaggy line too if you like.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

Using a large carving knife slice the top half of the pumpkin off using your scored line for guidence. Take the top off and place to one side.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

Scoup out all the filling and seeds and place this in a bowl. Keep the filling as you can use this for my pumpkin pie recipe. You can also plant the seeds to grow your own pumpkins (I only have a window box so there is no chance of me doing this).

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

Draw a face on the front of your pumpkin for reference. Make it as spooky or creative as you like.

  6. Step 6

    Step 6

Cut the shapes out using a sharp knife. Replace the lid and voila you're done.

  7. Step 7

    Step 7

Fill with tealights, candles or fairy lights and watch it glow.
