You don’t have to have long hair to have a swinging 1950s-style ponytail. Use a hair extension in the same colour as your hair to create the illusion of length.

You Will Need

    Take a rectangular section of your hair from your temples to your crown and clip it out of the way with a section clip. This section of hair will be used to create your quiff.

    Brush the rest of your hair upwards into a ponytail and secure with a hair band. Make sure the ponytail is sitting near the crown of your head to create height.

    If you have short hair and are using a hair extension,
    clip in the hair extension and wrap it around the ponytail. Arrange the extension so that it blends in with your natural hair and sit appropriately in your ponytail.

    Gently backcomb the top rectangular section of your hair with a fine-tooth comb.

    Once you have backcombed the front section, gently smooth the backcombed hair into a mini ponytail. Twist the bottom of the mini ponytail and push it forward to create height. How far you push it forward will determine how high your quiff will be. Once you are happy with the height, secure the twisted section with hair grips/bobby pins to hold your quiff in place.

    Pin any stray ends from your quiff out of the way and smooth with a comb. And, as an additional finishing touch, wrap a small section of hair around the hair band to conceal it and secure with a single hair grip/bobby pin. Spritz with hairspray for long-lasting hold.
