  • How to melt a melted bead ring. Pony Bead Flower Ring - Step 1
    Step 1

Gather your supplies, pre-heat your oven to 400 degrees and line your baking dish with the foil.

(that's the ring blank stuck in the clothes pin....just so you can see it)

    Step 2

Arrange the beads on the foil lined baking sheet. The "petals" have to be touching the center. Carefully carry it to the hot oven and set the timer for 11 minutes or so.

    Step 3

    Wait....wait...wait...
After the initial 11 minutes I kept checking until the holes in the beads had disappeared. In my oven this took nearly 14 minutes.
Take the flower from the oven and let it cool until you can pick it up without burning yourself. Use the emery board to smooth any rough edges.

Next glue the flower onto the ring blank. I used a clothes pin to hold it in place. I used Gorilla Glue. It's amazing for mixed media and only takes a microscopic sized drop for this project. It needs pressure to bond and 24 hours to dry completely but holds REALLY well.

Here's the finished ring. The blanks I bought came from my local craft store and are the adjustable type.
This is my first attempt at a tutorial please let me know what you think. I'd also love to see the flowers you make.

Awesome tutorial, it's really straightforward and the pictures are clear, but you also explained some of what you had to do to make it work (the 14 minutes in your oven)

Great job with the how-to! I love the idea-I used to melt those clear prescription bottles way back when. I would put a marble in the bottle then melt it-instant pendant. Alas, the clear bottles don't exist anymore, but the melting goes on....

I made these little flowers into pendants by putting a jumpring under onme of the beads in the flower. This seemed to work and now the jumprings and flowers are fused together!

Scarlet... Have you tried washers or eyelets? I make necklaces in this way and use different coloured eyelets to make a hole for the cord to fit through. Hope this helps =]

It did "melt" into a gooy glob on one side more than the other - I use a toaster oven and it's a cheap one, so that certainly could be the problem. There are so cool though.

I'm glad so many people enjoyed my "flowers".
To Jeri, I'm sorry you have been having trouble with your flowers keeping their shape. The only thing I can think that may be going on is a "hot spot" in your oven. While making some other melted pony bead projects I noticed that some pieces melted much faster than others, always on the same side of the oven. The things in this area melt too fast and are harder to control. I hope this helps. As to putting holes in them..I have successfully reamed a hole using a bead reamer. I tried using a nail to put the hole in the flowers while they were still warm and it doesn't work.
