Mix a little light brow clay in with your dark brown clay, until it's swirled through to look like wood. Form a rough trunk shape about 1 cm tall.

Make roots by pinching out little pieces of clay.

Mix colors like green, yellow, and brown to make the color you want for your leaves. Form the top of your tree and stick in on top of the trunk.

Poke little holes all over the top of the tree using a toothpick (don't forget the bottom).

Use your finger to smudge the holes, as shown in the picture.

Now, time to add details! Roll out tiny pieces of brown clay to make branches. Stick them to the top of the trunk and the bottom of the leaves.

Roll a tiny ball of brown clay. Flatten it and add a little disc of black in the middle. Add it to the trunk. Also, make a small loop with jewelry wire and stick it into the top of the tree (sorry I don't show that part in this pic!)

Bake, glaze, and you're done! :D
