Step 1Cut off legs just below zipper.

Step 2Cut legs into eight equally-sized rectangles - two from the front of each leg and two from the back.

Step 3Join rectangles together into a large tube.

Step 4Hem one edge. This will be the bottom of your skirt.

Step 5Mark 1/5 inches on either side of each seam.

Step 6Fold vertically at these markings and sew 1/8-inch from the fold.

Step 7Bring together the two folds shown above to form a pleat. Sew 1/8-inch from the inside folds of the pleat as well. Repeat this at each seam to form eight pleats.

Step 8Insert right-side-out pleated portion into inside-out waist portion. Pin in place, then sew around to secure.

Step 9Top-stitch along this seam for a finished look.

I bet it would work with jeans too. These brown slacks were a cotton-blend twill, quite similar to denim.
