Step 1You'll need a hat and thinner belt. I've used three shapes of hats and three types of belts to show you the diversity of this technique.

Step 2Place the belt around the crown of the hat. It helps to determine how many times the belt wraps around to see where it will end and be tied (depending on if you want the knot or bow to be on the side or back of the hat). Once you have figured this out you will know where you want to start wrapping the belt.

Step 3Criss cross the belt in the front of the hat. If it is a thicker belt, you may need to tuck one end behind the other (as I did with the colorful belt).

Step 4Tie the two ends in the back of the hat.

Step 5Tie a knot or bow with the end of the strings.

Step 6This is the completed look. I bought this hat at the 99 cents store and the braided belt was off of a dress in my closet.

Step 7This is a safari inspired version. I bought the hat on a cruise and the fabric belt is from a pair of shorts I have.
