another sample from a friend turned into something useful
my friend gave me a few fabric samples she had no use for so i turned out of them into a pencil case.

    firstly cut out some lining so it's about an inch longer either side of the edge of the fat quarter of fabric. then pin to the right side of the fabric. sew along all four edges leaving a gap to turn the right way out. then ladder stitch the gap closed.

    pin or tack the zip to one of the edges of the material so that the zip is the right way up. sew this down. (i have a zip footer for my sewing machine which made this so much easier!). then do the same on the other side so that in the end you have a sort of tube...

    if the zip is too long, leave it for now.

    turn inside out and sew up the end where the zip stops when it is fully zipped up. this should be the simple end.

    my zip was too long, so i chopped it off about half an inch too long. i twisted these to fold down on either side, and stitched them down, continuing along the sides.

    upzip the zip and turn it inside out and there you should have a pencil case! :)
