These are fantastic. I never thought of making maracas with papier mache. I am gonna copy u! May I ask what you used as a base object? Balloons?

Yes I used balloons (the small water balloons as a base and a clean popsicle stick taped to the end of the balloon.
You can use wallpaper paste or lightly watered down white glue, wet your newspaper strips and cover completely. Allow this to dry overnight (sometimes longer if it is humid). Do at least four or five coats covering the balloon completely. Balloon will lose some air, don't fret over it. Once this is dry cut small hole to fill with uncooked (of course) beans or rice) tape up hole and add at least four more layers. If you want you can use a couple of layers of colored tissue paper. This alleviates using paper pulp which is a pain unless you are familiar with it. It also hides seams.
