I got the idea for this from Kirstie's homemade Britian (UK craft show), where she makes a bird using the same method. I thought hearts would make cute valentines gifts. Btw I've just realised that I've called this paper-mache in the title and it isn't really- oops!
1
Here's pretty much wnat you need to start- newspaper, sellotape, string and scissors.
2
Cut a piece of string (or ribbon if you want) and knot to make a loop.
3
Scrunch a ball of paper around the knot in the sting, so that the loop sticks out. Tape the knot to the inside of the paper, so that its secure.
4
Cover the paper with sellotape so that it makes a smooth and shiney surface.
5
Keep adding scrunched up balls of paper and covering with tape until your heart is the shape you want it.
6
Now we paint the sucker with the white acrylic paint. You may need to do a couple coats. Make sure no sellotape is showing and try not to paint your string.
7
Now we have a blank canvas to decorate. If you're arty and like painting you could decorate with different paint effects. I, however am not arty so i covered mine with little scraps of decoupage paper. The paper I used is from decopatch an comes in lots of pretty patterns. It also comes with a glue/varnish that dries to give a nice finish, although i think you may be able to achieve a similar finish with modpodge.

Cover the whole heart. Let dry. Sit back and enjoy (or give away for someone else to enjoy).
