Painted Purse

  • Completed Project: Painted Purse Picture #1

How do you save a purse after an accidental ink explosion? A purposeful ink explosion, of course!
 <  Image 1 of 2  >

My sister bought me this awesome expandable yet compact purse. Unfortunately, a cheap pen exploded in the front pocket the very first week I had it. I mulled some ideas around for a while and finally decided to explode some more ink on it, but this time with purpose and flair!
The inspiration for the pattern was a 19th century crazy quilt I saw in a magazine.
Be kind - this is my first posting and my first tutorial.
Thanks!

  1. Step 1

    Step 1

Get a purse! (No prior ink explosion necessary.)
    Find a pencil...
Grab some permanent markers and fabric markers!
Note on the fabric markers - read all the directions, they might need a heat-set before you can tote around your oh-so-stylish new tote!

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

Sketch on some cool designs - I used a regular #2 (aka HB) pencil. If you aren't happy with the sketched design, you can always erase (depending on the fabric), wash out, or just paint/marker over. Don't make sketches in Permanent marker unless you're super-confident.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

Start painting! (Or, I guess that would be "markering" in my case...) I chose a crazy-quilt motif and even painted in some "lace".

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

    TA DA!!!
