Origami Magic Circle

  • Completed Project: Origami Magic Circle Picture #1

Magical!

I've been doing origami since I was a wee young lass and I've seen a lot of origami books. This design is one that's really easy and effective and yet out of all the books I've read I've only ever seen it once.

This is my first How to. Let me know if my steps make enough sense and if you need some help understanding them.

  1. Step 1

    Step 1

Ok first thing you need is 8 pieces of paper. If you don't have square origami sheets like me we'll make em ^_^

When it comes to colours I tend to just use 4 different ones as I think it leaves a better effect but that's just me.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

For those who have rectangles like I do just fold one corner to the side and cut off the strip hanging over.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

    Horray you have a square!

So take your first square and fold it in half and unfold in all directions as shown here.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

Ok now we have to make a Triangle Base. For those who haven't done much origami I will still go through this (as best I can) step but for those who know already you can skip a few :)

    So fold in half

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

Now take the top right corner you can see sticking up in the photo and bring it over to the other side The creases you have already made will aid in this

  6. Step 6

    Step 6

As you bring that side over you press down like so and flatten the triangle you just made.

  7. Step 7

    Step 7

Flip over and do the same to the other side

  8. Step 8

    Step 8

Yay we now have a triangle base :D

  9. Step 9

    Step 9

Next fold two of the points into the middle. Then flip over and do the same to the other side.

  10. Step 10

    Step 10

Now do this to the other 7 squares that you have. It's ok I'll wait :D

dooo dee doo dee doo *twiddles thumbs*

    Excellent :D

  11. Step 11

    Step 11

Now this is the hardest bit of the construction although it isn't that hard once you understand what to do.

(the first time I was making this the instructions weren't written well so I got very confused as to what it meant)

Anyway you slide the points of one of the pieces into the pockets created at the points on another piece. The image should explain this better then I can :P

  12. Step 12

    Step 12

    Top view.

Slide these in as far as they go. They will make a diamond shape when you look at it from this angle.

  13. Step 13

    Step 13

Now fold these pieces up together to form a shape that looks like this.

  14. Step 14

    Step 14

Continue adding each piece onto each other in this fashion.

  15. Step 15

    Step 15

Finally Join the outer pieces together to form a circle.

And Yay its finished but this isn't the cool part.

Hold the sides and turn them away from you and back inwards until you get...

  16. Step 16

    Step 16

    TADA!
