Newspaper Skirt

  • Completed Project: Newspaper Skirt Picture #1
  • Completed Project: Newspaper Skirt Picture #2

For Rock Star - Reuse newspaper and make it into a punk skirt.
 <  Image 1 of 2  >

We had a campaign on Global Warming and my band performed at the Opening Live(like mini Live Earth Concert). The theme of our campaign was 'R3 - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' so we were all trying to reuse some old stuff to creat new things.. And I made myself this newspaper skirt and had it on while I was performing.

that is too cool...how did you keep it from ripping? i made one once and i taped the inside with clear duct tape so it wouldnt rip. i made sure not to use it on the outside of the skirt because the lights would create too much glare and it would lose the whole "recycle effect"

I had some clear duct tape to strengthen the wraist area. I'd say I had to be very careful when wearing it (actually only that half an hour when I was performing). Newspapers are simply too 'fragile'.. But there are many 'layers' of them, so it doesnt matter much even if some pieces are ripping.. :D

mm. very cool.
if you wanted you could later sew in some stabilizer
to add stiffness to the upper layer. you could also add
a liner in case some skin peeks through--you're covered.
if you're really into preserving the skirt buy a bottle or
two of modge podge and evenly distribute it over the newspaper strips. it'll strength and last awhile longer.
