For that time in your life when you suddenly need to make a Cupcake Tray looking like a Volcano
Preparing for the first Oz BM we had a funraiser in Melbourne. Having a cOZtume Camp we are always looking for more fabulous outfits so thought of bribing people with delicious cupcakes to get them to give some to us.

For some reason i felt an urge for dinosaur cupcakes & a Volcano Cupcake Tray so if you ever feel the need for making a papier mache volcano cupcake tray, here you have it..

  • How to make a cake stand. My Volcanic Blast Of A Cupcake Tray - Step 1
    Step 1

You need some chicken wire or other easy bendable net, wire cutters, gloves or you will shred your hands in no time. One or two newspapers depending on how thick you want it got time for, non toxic craftglue and a empty icecream bucket or similar thing to mix the glue in.

    Step 2

I had ca 2 meters of chicken wire that i cut in about half & started shaping up the volcano i wanted, n around it to be able to stand the cupcakes on.
I then intertwined & folded over the other half of the chickenwire where i needed it & used the wire cutters to even the base edge slightly,i didnt fancy having it a perfectly round shape or anything so i didnt.

    Now for the messy bit!
I used 1 part non toxic craft glue to 2 parts water & mixed it in an old buket. You might not want to do this inside, it drips a LOT.
I then tore all the newspaper into fairly uneven shreds about 3 inches/8 cm wide & took a bunch & drowned it in the glue/water mixture, take up one stripp at a time & pull it inbetween you index & middle fingers to get some of the extra mixture off, then place strip by stip smoothly from top to bottom overlapping.
Once complety covered leave for about 12 hours to dry & then do the next layer.
You need a minimum of three layers & leaving it 12 hours inbetween each layer to let it dry but you can do as many layers as you like it to be thick-it only get sturdier.
I had very little time so i only did 3 layers.

You might also want to watch out for getting scrached on you legs if you have it at a table like me cause you dont notice it at the time but i had lots of red bump & scratches all over. Dosnt kill ya tho.

    Step 6

    Think lava. Paint lava.
I used flurecent orange to paint & do dripps in natural flow places, where i thought the lava would pour down.
Then i used the fluro orange & scarlet to make it look like its glowing in the middle of the volcano.

    Eruption in action!
We had heaps of cupcakes left in the night so we decieded on taking the Volcanic Dinosaur Cupcake Tray on a walkabout amongst the happy burners of all ages.

I hav'nt actually seen it in UV light but im sure its awesome, its kind of glowing anyway.

So now you know if you ever, ever need to make one..
