  1. Step 1

    Step 1

Find an old mixtape or cassette.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

Grab your sharpies & color a design onto one or both sides (if you color both sides differently, it's like you have two necklaces).

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

Cut two lengths of black ribbon as long or short as you'd like. The longer the ribbon, the lower the necklace will hang. I cut mine at about 8 inches each.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

Glue the ribbon to the left or right side of the cassette.

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

Thread the end of the ribbon through a jump ring, and glue or tie it closed.

  6. Step 6

    Step 6

Take the other ribbon and thread the end through a jewelery clasp, and glue or tie it closed.

  7. Step 7

    Step 7

Hook the clasp through the jump ring, and your creation is ready to wear!

I found a website where they sell tiny tapes on necklaces for lots of money, but I dunno where to get tiny tapes and I always thought that a normal cassette would be too big?

They do make smaller cassettes, like the ones for my dictaphone, they're about a third of the size as a normal one. Check electrical stores.

Yeah, if i make 1 it'd definately be a mini one as the big one looks a little weird but love the idea!

I'm gonna make one that hangs length ways across my chest so that the ribbon looks like it's spooling off the wheels inside the cassette.

thats really cool :) Far better than paying for them!
I did a lazy version with my dictaphone tapes a while ago, where i just thread a chain/ribbon through the two holes in the tape. I love them.. but your way looks awesome.

ha! i love this. if i make one, i'm just tying the ribbon through one of the holes--then it's double the fun, you can wear it and it's still playable. :]
