Now it is time to use the clean ornaments
 <  Image 1 of 4  >

I make bunches of these every year. I have a tree full of them, tradition is when someone stops by, they get to pick an ornament off the tree. This year I really tried hard not to do so many ones that look like fire (my favorite) Really easy and great looking.

if you find already decorated ornaments, or scratched up ones at a yard sale or second hand store, here is how to turn them into clear ones.

  1. Step 1

    Step 1

Take your freshly clean and dry glass ornaments

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

    Bottles of actylic paint.

  3. Step 3

    Step 3

Place three or four drops of a couple of different colors in the ornament.

Remember, the more paint the heavier and the longer the drying time.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

Tilt the ornament on it's and let the paint follow the pull of gravity

  5. Step 5

    Step 5

You can find something the ornament can lay in on it's side and rotate it a bit every 15 minutes or so.

  6. Step 6

    Step 6

If you think it needs more paint, add a few drops but don't over do it.

    Keep rotating the ornament.

I have one sitting and waiting to rotate while I work on another, so I end up with several going at one time.

  7. Step 7

    Step 7

Keep in mind that until the paint inside finishes drying the pattern will change.

  8. Step 8

    Step 8

Remember as they hang upside down it will change, so it is best not to over mix them.

I know it is hard and not shake the crap out of it to cover everywhere, but it is so worth the wait.

i make these like every year. i got the idea from a magazine like 6 years ago. i always shake the crap out of mine haha! i'll try rotating them instead.

also when they are drying it helps to put them on top of a Dixie Cup to catch the paint...just a bit of advice. yours look great!! love the black and white one!

Random, but the pictures where the ornaments are upside down totally makes me think of Willy Wonka and oversized Lollipops haha

thanks for all the complements! i leave them upside down on a drying rack i made from an old wire shelf, under the rack i have sheets of wax paper, or a garbage bag so i can collect the drips, which are really pretty, i'm going to figure something to do with them, for now they are filling up a jar.

So far my favorite one this year is a black, white and red one, the red almost looks like a bleeding heart.

yeah, not real Christmas type of thing, but i've never been "normal" one of the trees i put up at Christmas is black. XD

awesome, love this. i think you can do the same with plastic shade too^^
thanks for the tute and the sharring!

you probably could do this on a plastic shade. but you would need to do a bit of prep work first, like sand the area where the paint will be with an extra fine sandpaper or 00000 steel wool.

the reason being is that the acrylic paint will peel off the plastic. it will peel off glass too, but since the pain is on the inside of these, you won't run into the problemm of it chipping and then peeling.

you have me thinking on another idea now XD thanks!!!

That is an absolute genius idea. So simple yet so effective. I am going to have to give this a go if I find some clear bobbles!

go to a second hand store and buy some of the old nasty looking glass ornament, then just turn them into clear ones by doing this http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/old_glass_ornaments_in_to_clear_blank_slates_
much cheaper than purchasing new clear ones.

I actually went out and bought some clear ones today :D I did two of them already. Had a bit of a problem with some of my paints being thicker then others. So I had to mix some of them in water first (which then made it harder to drop into the baubles). They turned out good though. I did a firey one like your, I must say I'm a fan of the colours aswell.

I doubt I'll be able to find any in the second hand shop to clean out, if I do though I'll be sure to give cleaning them off a go.
