  • How to weave a woven paper box. Magazine Woven Box With Lid - Step 1
    Step 1

You're going to start with four magazine sheets, divide each one in four equal pieces

    Step 2

Next, take one of those pieces and fold it in half. Unfold and meet the line in the middle with one side. Now fold that again and again until you have a thick strip. Glue last fold down. Do that to all 16 pieces.

    Step 3

Take one strip and fold it in half. Tape the ends together. Do this to three more pieces.

  • How to weave a woven paper box. Magazine Woven Box With Lid - Step 4
    Step 4

Take one of those folded strips and glue one unfolded strip in front and one in back from the folded one. It's hard for me to explain this but i`ll try.
The folded strip has now two sides, one will be with all the glued strips (one over, one under, repeat) the other side won`t have anything on.

    Step 5

Now, take another folded strip.Place just like in the picture, the green stripes in between.
if the first green stripe is over the folded one (purple), then the green stripe will have to be under the second folded one (under, over, repeat)
Again, the back side will be plain.

    Step 6

This is how the back will look. one of the sides (folded stripes) will have paper, the other one nothing.

  • How to weave a woven paper box. Magazine Woven Box With Lid - Step 7
    Step 7

Keep weaving the other two folded stripes.
    The pattern is:
    over(O) Under (U)

    O U O U O U O
    U O U O U O U
    O U O U O U O
    U O U O U O U

    Step 8

Now, you`re going to count five stripes and then fold in half, in order to have the sape of a rectangular box.

That's why it was important to leave the other side of the folded stripes clean.

    Step 9

    This is how it looks.

  • How to weave a woven paper box. Magazine Woven Box With Lid - Step 10
    Step 10

Fold the stripes to make the bottom of the box. You'll have to keep the pattern (over, under) and viceversa.

It`s kind of tricky to explain, hope the pictures will help.

  • How to weave a woven paper box. Magazine Woven Box With Lid - Step 11
    Step 11

When you reach the end fold down, to complete one side. Do this to all four strips.

  • How to weave a woven paper box. Magazine Woven Box With Lid - Step 12
    Step 12

The rest five strips will make the other side. keep weaving until all the strips are in place (and it looks like a box).

You can leave it like that at this point. Just trim the excess and enjoy.
If you want your box to have a lid, keep going.

  • How to weave a woven paper box. Magazine Woven Box With Lid - Step 13
    Step 13

Trim the side that has the four strips. Don't throw this pieces away.

The other five strips will be the lid.
Take the trimed pieces and weave them till the end.

    Step 14

Use some masking tape or any clear or pattern tape to finish off the tab on the lid.

  • How to weave a woven paper box. Magazine Woven Box With Lid - Step 15
    Step 15

To make the tab, measure and fold from the edge, like so. And that is it!

    Step 16

You can use this as a party favor, fill it with candy or little toys, coins, thread, to stash letters, little notes, anything.

i love this!! its very colorful, and reuses something that normally gets thrown in the trash. here in my home we believe in recycling and reusing as much as we can. I am definately going to have to give it a try!!
